The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for the direction and supervision of nursing staff and activities, ensuring departmental goals and objectives are met efficiently. This role involves making administrative decisions based on long-term care policies and nursing standards, and ensuring compliance with nursing practice standards to promote optimal healthcare delivery.
The DON interprets and implements administrative and resident care policies as communicated by the VP, Senior Administrator. Responsibilities include interviewing and hiring nursing management and supervisory staff, assigning professional staff, evaluating personnel, and leading meetings such as Supervisory and Nurse Manager Meetings.
The DON collaborates with the staff to develop departmental policies, coordinates activities of nursing neighborhoods, and promotes harmonious relationships among nursing staff, medical personnel, residents, and visitors. The role involves planning staff development programs, managing nursing staff, and analyzing and improving nursing services for quality care and efficient staff utilization.
Additional duties include overseeing quality improvement activities, ensuring compliance with State, Federal, and Joint Commission standards, managing nursing expenses, and approving invoices. The DON also fulfills Infection Preventionist duties, including developing infection control programs, overseeing antibiotic stewardship, and leading the Infection and Prevention Control Committee.
The role requires participating in facility assessments, reviewing and updating infection control policies, providing education on infection prevention, and collaborating with other departments on occupational health and safety. Maintaining documentation of infection control activities is essential.
Pay range: $81,681 - $136,136 annually
