Job Summary:

The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for the overall management and coordination of nursing services in a skilled nursing facility. The DON oversees the nursing staff, ensures the delivery of high-quality resident care, and maintains compliance with regulatory standards and best practices. Additionally, the DON collaborates with other members of the interdisciplinary team to promote resident well-being, staff development, and organizational success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and direction to nursing staff, including registered nurses (RNs), licensed practical nurses (LPNs), and certified nursing assistants (CNAs), ensuring adherence to established policies, procedures, and standards of care.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and executive team to develop and implement strategic goals, objectives, and quality improvement initiatives related to nursing services.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of resident care plans, treatment protocols, and nursing interventions, ensuring individualized and person-centered care.
  • Monitor and evaluate nursing care delivery, resident outcomes, and staff performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate nursing staff, fostering a culture of excellence, teamwork, and professional development.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations governing nursing practice, healthcare delivery, and quality assurance, as well as accreditation standards.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members, including physicians, therapists, social workers, and dietary staff, to coordinate resident care and achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain effective communication channels with residents, families, and stakeholders, addressing concerns, providing education, and promoting resident satisfaction.
  • Manage nursing department budget, resources, and supplies, optimizing efficiency and cost-effectiveness while maintaining high-quality care.
  • Stay informed about changes in healthcare regulations, reimbursement policies, and industry trends, advocating for nursing interests and implementing best practices.

Qualifications:
  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensure required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive nursing leadership experience, with at least 1-2 years of experience in a skilled nursing facility or similar healthcare setting.
  • Strong clinical knowledge and expertise in geriatric nursing, long-term care, and rehabilitation services.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate nursing staff.
  • Proven track record of strategic planning, organizational development, and performance improvement.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements, quality assurance processes, and accreditation standards applicable to skilled nursing facilities.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple responsibilities, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to resident-centered care, compassion, and professionalism.
