Job summary

Boston Public Schools in Boston, MA is seeking a Director of Multilingual Learners (ML) for grades 9-12 to lead and evaluate ML programs, develop staff, and promote equitable instruction. This role advances inclusion, rigorous academics, and 21st-century skills across ML students with strong collaboration with teachers and administrators.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in education with a concentration in Sheltered English Instruction Administration and/or a related field.
  • Massachusetts Supervisor/Director license or Administrator of Sheltered English Instruction Provisional with Advanced Standing or Standard.
  • Five (5) years teaching and managerial experience.
  • Massachusetts teacher license in Sheltered English Instruction.
  • Experience and training in supervision and evaluation of teachers as a professional developer.
  • Leadership, interpersonal skills, and ability to work with students, teachers, administrators and parents.

Responsibilities

  • Leads and oversees the design, implementation, monitoring, and continuous evaluation of all ML programs and curriculum activities, including all formative and summative testing.
  • Ensures program compliance with district, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Delivers department leadership that provides clear and consistent excellence and accountability and advocates for inclusion and rigorous academic preparation for all ELLs.
  • Oversee the proper scheduling and instructional placement of MLL students.
  • Work with staff members to support differentiated instruction.
  • Assist in planning the implementation of school instructional initiatives and practices to support alignment of learning standards with effective teaching practices.
  • Model, co-teach, and observe in classes.
  • Provide feedback and suggestions to support teachers in accommodations and modifications.
  • Provide professional development activities for teachers to improve instruction for ML students.
  • Support improved achievement for all students and collaborate to close achievement gaps.
  • Utilize technology resources to support data-based decision making and instructional strategies.
  • Stay informed in ML policy and best practices and participate in professional development.
  • Oversee curriculum and distribution of instructional materials for ML programs and other content areas.
  • Design and implement grants to support ML staff and students.
  • Articulate ML goals to the community through collaboration with parents and students to foster engagement.
  • Maintain responsive lines of communication among students, parents, and staff.
  • Engage in recruitment and outreach work to raise awareness of Madison Park unique programming.
  • Collaborate with other Directors to implement supports and modifications for students.
  • Develop and maintain integration of learning across instructional areas and career guidance.
  • Assist Principal with budget planning and processing requests for supplies and equipment.
  • Assist in administration of all required assessments.
  • Supervise and direct the work of teachers and support staff including evaluation of performance.
  • Support school leadership in hiring ML teachers and staff.
  • Perform other responsibilities as designated by Head of Schools.
