Job summary

DLA Piper is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead the design, development, delivery, modernization, and ongoing support of enterprise technology solutions that enable the firm’s legal and business operations.

The role provides strategic leadership for software engineering, application development, and systems integration, ensuring secure, scalable, maintainable solutions aligned with enterprise priorities and value streams. It also drives governance, budgeting, and talent development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/Engineering/IS or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Master's degree preferred in technology, business, or management-related discipline.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for engineering and application development across value streams.
• Set technical direction, architectural standards, and engineering practices for secure, scalable solutions.
• Partner with IT, legal operations, and business stakeholders to translate priorities into roadmaps and delivery strategy.
• Lead engineering execution and continuous delivery, balancing innovation with stability and debt reduction.
• Oversee budgets, vendor relationships, and third-party development partners.
• Lead, develop, and retain engineering leadership and senior technical talent; manage performance and succession.

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field

Master's Degree in Technology, business, or management‑related discipline
