Job summary

DLA Piper is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead design, development, delivery, modernization, and ongoing support of enterprise technology solutions aligned with firm priorities.

You will direct software engineering, application development, and systems integration, ensuring secure, scalable and maintainable solutions while partnering with value stream leaders and stakeholders to improve productivity and client experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Master's Degree in Technology, business, or management-related discipline preferred.
• Relevant cloud/platform certifications are preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in software engineering or application development, including at least five years in a senior leadership or management role overseeing multiple teams or portfolios.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for engineering and application development teams across firmwide capabilities.
• Set technical direction, architectural standards, and engineering practices for security, scalability, maintainability, and operational sustainability.
• Translate business outcomes into executable technology roadmaps and delivery strategies with a user experience mindset.
• Lead engineering execution and continuous delivery while balancing innovation and reliability.
• Collaborate across IT to improve delivery flow, reduce bottlenecks, and increase throughput and quality.
• Oversee multiple product and platform workstreams and manage budgeting, vendor relations, and third-party resources.
• Develop and retain engineering leadership talent and establish governance, metrics, and reporting for platform health and delivery outcomes.
