Job summary

DLA Piper is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead the design, development, delivery, modernization, and support of enterprise technology solutions across the firm's legal and business operations. The role provides strategic and operational leadership for software engineering, application development, and systems integration to deliver secure, scalable, and maintainable capabilities.

You will partner with value stream leaders, IT services, and business stakeholders to translate priorities

Qualifications

• 10+ years in software engineering or application development.
• At least 5 years in senior leadership or management overseeing multiple teams or portfolios.
• Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for engineering and application development teams supporting firmwide legal and business capabilities across value streams.
• Set technical direction, architectural standards, and engineering practices to ensure secure, scalable, maintainable solutions.
• Translate business outcomes and priorities into executable technology roadmaps and engineering delivery strategies.
• Lead engineering execution and continuous delivery balancing innovation, platform stability, and technical debt reduction.
• Oversee engineering efforts across multiple product and platform workstreams; collaborate with IT functions to improve delivery flow.
• Establish governance, metrics, and reporting for engineering performance, platform health, and delivery outcomes.
• Manage budgets, vendor relationships, consultant resources, and third‑party development partners as applicable to the service portfolio.
• Lead, develop, and retain engineering management and senior technical talent; provide performance feedback.
• Ensure compliance with firm security, risk, governance, privacy, and data protection standards.
