Job summary

Hims & Hers is seeking a Director of Engineering for Care to own the clinical and patient-facing engineering strategy, from intake and consultation through prescribing. You will lead cross-functional teams, set a multi-year technical and organizational roadmap, and develop leaders who will carry it forward.

You will drive architecture, API contracts, and AI-enabled development while ensuring patient safety, regulatory compliance, and auditable systems.

Qualifications

• Over 12 years in software engineering with leadership experience
• Experience building systems handling regulated health data (HIPAA)
• Proven ability to own end-to-end user experiences with cross-functional teams
• Strong background in modern service architectures and evaluation of design decisions
• Experience integrating health/pharmacy systems (labs, e-prescribing, pharmacy platforms)
• Ability to define and execute technical roadmaps linked to product vision
• Excellent communication and executive-facing presence

Responsibilities

• Own technical vision, architecture, and delivery for Care engineering
• Define and deliver engineering roadmap with product and design
• Lead transition to domain-driven architecture with API contracts
• Ensure patient safety, security, privacy, and regulatory compliance
• Set reliability standards (SLOs, incident response) for critical flows
• Foster AI-first engineering culture and measurable goals
• Mentor managers and engineering leaders, plan succession
• Staffing and organizational strategy, including hiring and headcount planning
• Coordinate alignment across teams and manage trade-offs between speed and debt
• Represent engineering in executive forums and communicate strategy and risk
