Job summary

The Chronicle of Higher Education, Inc. is seeking a Director of Career Services to oversee the Career Center operations at Vincennes University. The role involves building employer relationships, coordinating on-campus interviews, and delivering workshops to enhance student employability.

Ideal candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) and at least two years of career center experience in a higher education setting, with strong organizational and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s level degree preferred in areas of student affairs, higher education, organizational management.
  • Two years of career center experience in post-secondary preferred and/or experience working in a higher education/student affairs environment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain existing working relationships and develop new working relationships with quality employers.
  • Encourage employers to register on and assist with posting employment opportunities on the Career Center external database.
  • Conduct employer fairs throughout the academic year enabling students to gain visibility with employers.
  • Work with academic colleges to plan events that meet the unique needs and skill sets of our students and employers.
  • Schedule campus-based interviews throughout the year.
  • Assist employers with salary/benefit information for various employment positions as they are making job offers to graduates.
  • Assist students with their resumes, job searches, BlazerCareerlink usage, cover letters, interviews, and follow-up communications.
  • Create and conduct class presentations to assist students with occupational majors in the search of near future employment.
  • Coordinate, create, and conduct workshops pertinent to employability success of all students.
  • Conduct an Occupational Graduate Survey by contacting recent graduates and collecting data for prospective students.

Description

Primary Function: The Director of Career Services will perform duties related to theoperations of the Career Center. Including working with students,business, and industry to meet employment needs. The Director willuse various avenues to connect students and employers withfull-time employment, summer employment, part-time employment, andinternships.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Maintain existing working relationships and develop new workingrelationships with quality employers.
  • Encourage employers to register on and assist with postingemployment opportunities on the Career Center externaldatabase.
  • Conduct employer fairs throughout the academic year enablingstudents to gain visibility with employers. Those fairs wouldinclude part-time job fairs, full-time Career Fairs, or InternshipFairs.
  • Work with academic colleges to plan events that meet the uniqueneeds and skill sets of our students and employers.
  • Schedule campus-based interviews throughout the year.
  • Survey employers and students utilizing career services toevaluate services provided.
  • Assist employers with salary/benefit information for variousemployment positions as they are making job offers tograduates.
  • Assist students with their resumes, job searches, BlazerCareerlink usage, cover letters, interviews, and follow-upcommunications.
  • Create and conduct class presentations to assist students withoccupational majors in the search of near future employment.
  • Coordinate, create, and conduct workshops pertinent toemployability success of all VU students.
  • Conduct an Occupational Graduate Survey by contacting recentgraduates completing an ACST or BS major. Using various collectionmethods, collect data to determine their employment success,salary, and other related data which could be used for potentialstudents as well as current students needing to select amajor.
  • Track activities performed by the Center in order to evaluatefuture needs.
  • Create and monitor the department budget.
  • Project future department needs when constructing thebudget.
  • Provide direction to the Career Specialist and Secretary of theCareer Services.
  • Maintain membership to National Association of Colleges andEmployers, (NACE) and Career Development Professionals of Indiana,(CDPI).
  • Serves as a Campus Security Authority.
Required Skills/Abilities

Education, Experience, Licensure
  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s level degree preferred inareas of student affairs, higher education, organizationalmanagement
  • Two years of career center experience in post-secondarypreferred and/or experience working in a higher education/studentaffairs environment.
