Vincennes University (VU) seeks an Assistant Director to help manage the Blazers Achieve SSS program, driving outcome‑driven services through coaching and supervision of Peer Mentors and Tutors.

You will oversee student intake, provide educational support, assist with recruitment and forms, coordinate grant activities, and mentor staff to ensure academic persistence and successful transfer.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, or related field required, Master’s degree preferred.
  • Two years of work experience providing educational/coaching/mentoring services to underrepresented populations required.

Responsibilities

  • Front line communication: Answer and assist; direct other departmental calls and questions.
  • Provide educational services, mentors, and coaches to underrepresented populations.
  • Assist Director with recruitment and follow-up with participants.
  • Assist participants in completion of postsecondary forms (e.g., transcript, FAFSA, scholarships).
  • Collaborate on grant services/activities to meet objectives (persistence, good standing, graduation or transfer).
  • Collaborate in evaluation plans and ensure data for APR accuracy.
  • Assist with student intake during START and some Saturdays.
  • Develop and instruct SSKL 006 (SSS University Experience).
  • Coordinate team professional development and maintain currency in the field.
  • Provide support and guidance for direct reports; supervise onboarding and training.
  • Ensure alignment with grant and college goals and report alterations as needed.
  • Monitor student progress and coach life skills; foster goal setting and self-regulation.

Description
Primary Function

To assist the Director in successfully managing the operations ofthe Blazers Achieve SSS program that are outcome driven. TheAssistant Director manages academic support to program participantsthrough coaching and supervision, especially to the PeerMentors/Tutors. Effective supervisory skills include coaching,mentoring, executive functioning to support employees and studentsin achieving the college and program’s mission and goals.

The Assistant Director will perform duties related to theoperations of Blazers Achieve Student Support Services.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Front line communication: Answer and assist; and direct otherdepartmental calls and questions.
  • Provides educational services, mentors, and coaches tounderrepresented populations (i.e., diverse cultural, ethnic,low-income, first generation, students with disabilities).
  • Assists Director with recruitment and follow-up withparticipants.
  • Assists participants in completion of postsecondary forms(e.g., transcript, FAFSA, scholarships).
  • Collaborates, plans, and organizes grant services/activities,which may include some evenings, to ensure grant objectives (i.e,persistence, good academic standing graduation and/or transfer) aremet.
  • Collaborates in the development and implementation ofevaluation plans to assess the effectiveness of grantactivities/objectives and ensures accuracy in data collection forthe annual performance report (APR).
  • Assists with student intake process during START VUs includingsome Saturdays.
  • Collaborates, develops, and instructs SSKL 006 (SSS UniversityExperience) class.
  • Coordinates Team professional development in order to maintaincurrency in the field.
  • Provides support and guidance for all direct reports andexercises sound management decisions.
  • Coaches, and assists with onboarding and ongoing training toensure best possible delivery of services to students.
  • Ensures alignment with grant goals and college goals andreports any needed alterations to the Director.
  • Monitors and assesses the students’ progress in classes, aswell as coaches life skills by helping the students develop a goalssetting mindset, self-regulation, increased communication skills,and finds appropriate campus and community resources.
  • Analyzes early warning alerts and contacts students.
  • Supervises and evaluates Peer Mentors/Tutors.
Required Skills/Abilities
  • Executive function/soft skills (e.g., planning, organizing,time management, task initiation, etc.).
  • Excellent written, verbal, and nonverbal communication skills,as well as being an active listener to students’ academic and lifeskill needs.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
Education, Experience, Licensure
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, or related fieldrequired, Masters’ degree preferred.
  • Work experience (i.e., minimum two years) providingeducational/coaching/mentoring services to underrepresentedpopulations (e.g., diverse cultural, ethnic, and economicbackground students with disabilities) required.
Physical Demands

Normal physical demands for successful work in a normal officeenvironment. Ability to sit or stand for extended periods. Abilityto utilize hands for g eneral office work including typing, filing,answering telephones, and writing.
