Description

We are in search of a Director of Banquets to oversee the operations of our Banquet Department at our 1,300 acre Grand Geneva Resort & Spa in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Recognized as a Top Resort in the Midwest by Conde Nast Traveler, this award-winning, all-seasons destination features over 746 guest accommodations, the WELL Spa & Salon, two championship golf courses, fitness facilities, a ski hill and terrain park, and 9 unique food and beverage outlets.

About the role

Grand Geneva Resort & Spa is now looking for a Director of Banquets with fantastic benefits! This role will ensure that the Banquet Department is as profitable as it can be; to provide the banquet guest with the most efficient, and professional service possible; and to meet and exceed all banquet guests' needs and expectations.

What will you be doing?

  1. Ensures the highest quality of food, beverage, and service related to all banquet areas.
  2. Directs and coordinates the activities of all assigned personnel and departmental responsibilities.
  3. Responsible for training standards throughout the department.
  4. Ensures the coordination of banquet service needs with food production.
  5. Maintains effective communications within and between departments to ensure proper servicing of guests' expectations.
  6. Maintains warm, hospitable guest relations in all guest contact. Interacts with banquet department associates as needed for guest service purposes.
  7. Controls labor, costs and expenses, and operates within budgetary and forecasted guidelines.
  8. Maintains accurate banquet function records and banquet checks.
  9. Conducts monthly departmental meetings. Attends F/B, BEO, Special Events, Quality, and Dept. Head meetings.
  10. Maintains adequate inventories of banquet and beverage service supplies to meet the needs of the hotel and the guest.
  11. Maintains a high quality image of the hotel through effective housekeeping, maintenance, and sanitation in the area of responsibility.
  12. Responds to individual guest needs as they occur.
  13. Implements and supports hotel operation policies and procedures.
  14. Maintains a high level of professional appearance, demeanor, ethics, and image of subordinates.
  15. Maintains fair wage and salary administration in the department in accordance with policy.
  16. Operates in compliance with all local, state and federal laws and government regulations.
  17. Assesses and reviews the job performance of subordinates and maintains records of assigned employees in a timely manner and according to policy.
  18. Maintains positive employee relations in a supportive environment.
  19. Staffs department to meet departmental responsibilities.
  20. Inducts, orients, and trains assigned associates to meet departmental responsibilities. Communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing, to provide clear direction to the staff.
  21. Interfaces department and self with other departments of the hotel to ensure a harmonious working relationship.
  22. Ensures good safety practices of employees, assists in the maintenance of the emergency action plan and security procedures.
  23. Performs special projects as requested.

What do you bring to the role?

  1. A minimum of 5 years of banquet management experience required.
  2. High school diploma required, 4-year degree in Hospitality related field preferred.
  3. Strong familiarization with food and beverage financial systems and controls.
  4. Passionate about hospitality and customer service driven.
  5. Keen intuition to anticipate needs and exceed expectations.
  6. Able to develop camaraderie with team members.
  7. Act ethically and honestly in all business practices and builds professional relationships by promoting mutual trust.
  8. Ability to maintain composure and remain pleasant under high pressure situations.
  9. Ability to communicate effectively in English.
  10. Bilingual preferred, but not required.
  11. Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time while touring food and beverage outlets. Ability to sit and perform tasks in an office atmosphere.
  12. Strong proficiency in Excel required.
  13. Ability to work a flexible schedule including days, nights, weekends and holidays.
