Job summary

Capital One is seeking a Director of AI Engineering to lead the Generative AI Training platform, enabling scalable foundation models and responsible AI practices. This role partners across engineering, research, PM, and compliance to deliver AI-powered banking experiences.

You will drive training/fine-tuning pipelines, GPU scheduling, and cost governance while mentoring a high-performing team and shaping the enterprise AI strategy. Remote-friendly with competitive compensation.

Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's degree in CS/AI/EE or related field plus extensive AI/ML experience.
At least 3 years of people leadership experience.
Experience building and leading an AI platform or ML infrastructure teams is preferred.

Responsibilities

Partner with a cross-functional team to deliver AI-powered products.
Oversee design, development, testing, deployment, and operation of the platform's core systems.
Make build-vs-buy decisions across Open Source and SaaS AI technologies.
Invent state-of-the-art techniques to improve scalability, cost, and reliability of large-scale training.
Own GPU capacity planning and cost governance for training workloads.
Contribute to the long-term AI platform strategy and roadmap.
