Job summary
Caterpillar seeks a Director of Manufacturing Engineering to lead a new Sanford, North Carolina advanced manufacturing operation. You will shape the factory’s digital, automated and connected capabilities during startup with leadership for standards and operating discipline.
You will guide from development through go-live and stable operations, collaborating with operations, product engineering, quality, supply chain, facilities, IT and external partners to build scalable manufacturing
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering disciplines.
- Extensive leadership in manufacturing engineering, process engineering or related field.
- Experience in developing and implementing manufacturing processes and automation.
- Proven track record building technical teams through growth or change.
- Led startups, expansions and large-scale transformations from design to ramp-up.
- Established technical standards, operating systems and workforce capability.
Responsibilities
- Lead manufacturing engineering for a new advanced facility from development to go-live.
- Deploy smart manufacturing capabilities, robotics and digital work instructions.
- Transition to shorter build times by redesigning processes and enabling automation.
- Oversee equipment reviews, installation planning and startup issue resolution.
- Define and execute manufacturing strategy, plant layout and automation.
- Develop integrated readiness plans for facility, equipment and production launch.
- Build an inclusive, high-performing manufacturing engineering organization.
- Partner across operations, engineering, quality, supply chain, facilities and IT.
- Establish standard work, governance and performance measures for safe operations.
- Use data to improve flow, reduce waste and drive continuous improvement.
- Translate demand forecasts into capacity and capital requirements.
- Present status, risks and mitigation plans to senior leaders.
