Qualifications

• Requires a 4 year degree or equivalent in an analytical, technical or professional discipline.
• Preferred: Master’s degree in education, higher education administration, or academic advising.
• Requires a minimum of seven (7) years of direct job-related experience.
• Experience in student success and academic advising at a large public institution is preferred.
• All positions at the University of Houston System require a criminal history check.

Responsibilities

• Provides executive leadership and oversight for the college’s academic advising and student-success operations supporting undergraduate and graduate programs.
• Advises students regarding academic requirements, degree planning, policies, progress, and completion, including complex cases.
• Directs professional advising staff; sets service standards; evaluates performance; supports hiring and structure decisions.
• Develops and implements college-wide strategies to improve student retention, progression, and degree completion.
• Monitors enrollment, course demand, academic progress, retention, and completion data to identify trends and needs.
• Reviews course schedules and offerings to address access, sequencing, capacity, and enrollment concerns.
• Advises leadership and faculty on enrollment optimization, advising practices, and degree pathways.
• Leads policy and process improvements for advising and student success; represents the college on university committees.
• Engages in professional development to apply best practices for continued success of the office.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
