Description

Responsible for the operations of a complex center or multipledepartments at the university. Oversees staff and budgets, andprojects.

  1. Administers a complex center or multiple departments.
  2. Manages budget and engages in strategic planning to ensure allgoals are met.
  3. Hires and directs the activities of staff.
  4. Resolves personnel issues as they arise.
  5. Engages in budget-planning, grant oversight, and policydevelopment.
  6. Implements new programs and projects and monitors ongoingactivities of department or center.
  7. Reviews department policies and processes and implementsimprovements as needed.
  8. Represents department or center to internal and externalconstituents.
  9. Performs other job-related duties as required.

Summary

Uses enrollment, advising, and academic-progress data toidentify trends, barriers, and opportunities for improvement.Collaborates with college leadership, academic units, faculty, anduniversity offices to strengthen academic pathways, improve thestudent experience, and ensure students have access to the courses,advising, and support necessary to complete their academicgoals.

Job Duties
  1. Provides executive leadership and oversight for the college’sacademic advising and student-success operations supportingundergraduate and graduate degree programs, minors, certificates,and other academic pathways.
  2. Advises undergraduate and graduate students regarding academicrequirements, degree planning, policies, progress, and completion,with particular responsibility for complex, sensitive, or escalatedstudent cases.
  3. Directs professional advising staff; establishes servicestandards and priorities; evaluates performance; supportsprofessional development; and provides input regarding hiring,personnel matters, and organizational structure.
  4. Develops and implements college-wide strategies to improvestudent retention, academic progression, degree completion, and theoverall student experience.
  5. Monitors and analyzes enrollment, course demand, academicprogress, retention, and completion data to identify trends,barriers, capacity needs, and opportunities for improvement.
  6. Reviews course schedules and planned offerings to identifyaccess, sequencing, capacity, and enrollment concerns. Collaborateswith academic units and scheduling personnel to recommendimprovements supporting student progression.
  7. Advises college leadership, academic administrators, faculty,and staff regarding enrollment optimization, advising practices,student-success strategies, academic policies, curricula, anddegree pathways.
  8. Leads the development and continuous improvement of policies,processes, programs, technologies, and communications supportingadvising and student success; represents the college on universitycommittees and collaborates with university offices to advancestudent outcomes.
  9. Engages in professional development with establishedprofessional organizations and associations to maintain continuouslearning of established and emerging best practices to bestrategically applied for continued success of the office.
  10. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Education

Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practicalaspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; orthe basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline.Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal,directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university oran equivalent in-depth specialized training program that isdirectly related to the type of work being performed.

Preferred: Master degree in education, higher educationadministration, or academic advising.

Experience

Requires a minimum of seven (7) years of direct job-relatedexperience.

Preferred: Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive experienceworking in student success and academic advising with performingand visual arts students at a large, public 4-year institution.

Experience will be considered in lieu ofeducation.
Education will be considered in lieu ofexperience.
