Job summary

Janitza is seeking a Director of R&D (Data Center Development) to lead North American research and early-stage development. You will shape the roadmap, validate concepts with customers, and influence global product decisions from Germany.

This is a high-visibility role reporting to the VP of Engineering in a fully remote-capable setup. You will drive customer-driven requirements, partner with Germany and NA teams, and guide hardware, firmware, and software solutions for data center power

Qualifications

• S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
• 10+ years of experience in electronic design and R&D, with direct experience in power systems, energy monitoring, or critical infrastructure applications.
• Strong understanding of electrical distribution systems, power quality, and power metering.
• Hands-on experience developing proof-of-concepts, prototypes, or customer-specific technical solutions.
• Proficiency in at least one simulation or prototyping environment: C/C++, MATLAB, or Python.
• Excellent communication skills - able to translate complex technical concepts for executives, customers, and sales teams.
• Comfort operating in ambiguous, early-stage environments where you create structure, not just follow it.

Responsibilities

• Define the North American R&D Direction and roadmap aligned to global strategy.
• Validate ideas through customer engagement and develop proof-of-concepts and reference architectures.
• Influence the global product roadmap by partnering with Germany HQ and product teams.
• Lead North America's research and early-stage development efforts with customers and key accounts.
• Collaborate across Sales, Product, Solutions Engineering, and engineering teams to convert insights into requirements.
