Job summary

Nscale is seeking a Director for Generation Controls, Protection, and Automation to lead the hardware-in-the-loop, modeling, and control philosophy for multi-gigawatt microgrid systems at our Houston campuses. You will drive design, testing, and deployment of islanded power systems that balance AI workloads with grid stability.

You will guide a team of engineers, coordinate with OEMs and EPCs, and ensure robust OT/ICS security, SCADA interfaces, and rigorous validation before energization.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in power systems controls, protection, or automation engineering.
• Experience with islanded, industrial, or microgrid power systems.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; PE license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Define and own microgrid control architecture and dispatch.
• Lead EMT modeling and stability validation with partners.
• Oversee protection philosophy and relay coordination for islanded systems.
• Set SCADA topology, alarms, and operator interfaces for safe plant operation.
• Lead commissioning, FAT, and field testing; mentor engineers and coordinate with OEMs.
• Coordinate with other engineering teams to ensure integrated system design.
