The Home Team seeks a dynamic founding Director to establish a housing advocacy coalition for Santa Barbara County.The Director will be responsible for overseeing the strategy, sustainability, and operation of the organization, including strategic direction, coalition building, fundraising, membership development, and advisory board development.
The Home Team Purpose
·Vision: A Santa Barbara County where all people havesafe, stable, and affordable homes so our community thrives.
·Mission: We build public support and drive policy change in Santa Barbara County to ensure housing affordability for all.
·Priorities: Our top priority is to increase the production of rental homes that are affordable to households at or below 80% area median income (AMI).We will also support policies and programs that increase rental and ownership opportunities for households at 120% AMI and below and preserve existing housing and affordability. We will achieve these goals through advocacy with elected officials, public will building, and coalition building.
The Home Team Organization
The Home Team will initially be a fiscally-sponsored project of the Santa Barbara Foundation. The Director will be a contractor of the Santa Barbara Foundation, with additional administrative, communications, and policy support to be contracted as funding is secured. The Director will report to an advisory board.
Key Areas of Responsibility
1.Organizational Mission & Strategy
·Work with the advisory board and other advisors to develop and realize The Home Team’s vision, mission, and operating principles.
·Develop and implement an initial work plan, ensuring that staff, budget, and priorities are aligned with plan and core mission.
·Provide direction and guidance to other team members, such as contractors, volunteers, coalition members, and other stakeholders.
·Serve as the spokesperson for The Home Team.
·Actively collaborate with other local and regional housing advocacy leaders, elected officials, and other affiliated organizations to build and strengthen partnerships.
·Engage in the work of the organization, including providing policy direction, working on particular policy issues, assisting with preparation of communications, and responding to legislative issues.
2.Steering Committee & Membership
·Develop, recruit, and engage a strong and diverse Steering Committee.
·Identify, recruit, and engage diverse cross-sector organizations and leaders to become members.
·Activate membership to financially support the organization and to provide advice, leadership, and action around housing affordability strategies.
·Increase membership through member outreach and engagement methods.
·Lead fundraising efforts, maintain existing funder relations and seek new partners.
·Seek and build Steering Committee involvement in communications, fundraising, membership, and events.
·Provide direction on organizational communications, including the website, earned media, social media platforms, and collateral.
4.Financial, Operations & Personnel Oversight
·Determine the long-term legal structure and fiscal home for The Home Team (project of another organization, independent 501c3, etc.)
·Prepare a proposed annual budget and coordinate preparation of monthly financial statements that accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.
·Oversee financial management to ensure ongoing budget stability, maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive fiscal position.
·Recruit, supervise, and evaluate staff and consultants.
·Ensure fulfillment of administrative and legal responsibilities to fiscal agent.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have affordable housing leadership experience, a track record of growing start-up organizations and strong collaborative relationships in Santa Barbara County.

This role is remote in the Santa Barbara County area. The incumbent should be available to meet regularly, in person, with stakeholders in the County and neighboring Counties. Travel in the broader California region may occasionally be necessary.
The total compensation package for this role is $110,000-$140,000.
