Job summary

Iridium is seeking a Director of Software Engineering Ground Systems Development to lead a large software organization responsible for ground systems and operations software across satellite constellations. You will guide architecture, development, testing, and transition to operations for multiple government programs.

The role requires 15+ years in satellite ground development, prior management experience, and strong Agile/leadership skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
• 15+ years of relevant experience in satellite ground development.
• Previous management experience of a software engineering team.
• Software development expertise with agile processes on large projects.
• Excellent communication and ability to drive discussions across groups.
• People-oriented leadership and ability to mentor a team.
• Strategic thinker with initiative to improve processes.

Responsibilities

• Establish strong customer and supplier relationships to maximize deliverables within contracts.
• Mentor and develop team members, evaluating performance and solving issues.
• Staff and define skill requirements, hiring strategies, and evolving tasks for government projects.
• Guide cross-functional projects, ensuring operational performance and program objectives.
• Be accountable for achieving technical milestones and delivery timelines.
• Develop a vision and strategic plan for tooling, skills evolution, and engineering processes.
