Job summary

National Wildlife Federation is seeking a Director of Employee Experience to lead the People team, shaping how employees feel, grow, and thrive. You will oversee recruitment, onboarding, development, and retention strategies while partnering with leadership to advance NWF’s mission and culture.

The role requires strategic vision, operational depth, and a commitment to equity, inclusion, and belonging in a large nonprofit setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, or related field; SHRM‑SCP, SPHR, or similar certification preferred.
• Significant experience leading or building People operations, programs, and practices in a complex organization.
• Strong generalist foundation across recruiting, talent development, change management, employee engagement, employee relations, compensation, and benefits.
• Knowledge of federal and state employment laws and translating legal requirements into equitable policy and practice.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and execution of a dynamic recruiting program reflecting NWF’s values and inclusion.
• Develop onboarding experiences that set new employees up for success and connect to NWF’s mission.
• Partner with Total Rewards to align compensation, benefits, and recognition with retention goals.
• Oversee day-to-day operations of People programs ensuring policies are applied equitably and in compliance with law.
• Lead a small HR team and contribute to People Leadership Team.
