Job summary

Liberty Mutual Insurance is seeking a Director of Data Science to lead AI/ML initiatives across Medical and Workers’ Compensation claims. This senior IC role partners with Claims and Delivery teams to create a roadmap, build GenAI capabilities, and elevate adjuster workflows.

You’ll design production-ready ML systems, mentor teams, and drive measurable business value in a cloud-native environment. Occasional travel and hybrid/officing may apply based on location.

Qualifications

• Senior data scientist with AI/ML leadership experience.
• Deep knowledge of insurance claims processes (Medical/Workers’ Compensation).
• Experience with Python production code and ML/AI Ops in a cloud-native enterprise.
• Ability to measure AI/ML system quality and business impact using quantitative and qualitative methods.

Responsibilities

• Partner with Claims leadership to identify AI/ML opportunities and craft a delivery roadmap.
• Design, build, and iterate ML and Generative AI capabilities delivering value to adjusters.
• Architect end-to-end intelligent systems integrating ML, LLMs, RAG, and structured/unstructured claims data.
• Apply software engineering and ML/AI Ops practices, including Python and test-driven development.
• Define evaluation strategies with KPIs, human-in-the-loop reviews, and automated quality metrics.
• Collaborate with Engineers, Product, Architecture, UX, and Claims stakeholders to translate problems into working solutions.
• Provide technical mentorship and lead design reviews and collaborations.
