Job summary

Liberty Mutual Insurance seeks a Director, Data Science for its MSP Claims team to independently identify and deliver ML/AI capabilities across Medical and Workers’ Compensation claims. You will partner with Claims, Insights & Solutions, and Technology to set a roadmap and deliver foundational AI capabilities, with potential to build a team as strategy grows.

The role emphasizes execution, architecture, and mentorship, with an in-office component based on location and occasional travel.

Qualifications

• Expert-level ML & statistical modeling with measurable business value.
• Deep knowledge of insurance claims processes, especially Workers’ Compensation or related medical lines.
• Proficient in Python development with OO design and best practices.
• Demonstrated ML Ops experience including lifecycle management, experimentation, evaluation, monitoring, and operational readiness in cloud environments.
• Ability to quantify AI/ML and GenAI system quality and business impact.
• Experience partnering with technical and business stakeholders in enterprise settings.

Responsibilities

• Identify AI/ML opportunities and build a delivery roadmap for claims.
• Design and iterate ML and GenAI capabilities to improve adjuster workflows.
• Architect end-to-end intelligent systems integrating ML, LLMs, and retrieval data.
• Apply software engineering and ML Ops practices across the stack.
• Define evaluation strategies and KPIs with human-in-the-loop processes.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate problems into solutions.
• Provide mentorship and lead design reviews.
