Job summary

Liberty Mutual Insurance seeks a Director of Data Science to lead ML/AI initiatives in MSP Claims Data Science, partnering with Claims and IT to build foundational ML capabilities. The role begins as an IC with path to team-building, driving measurable business value in Medical and Workers’ Compensation claims.

The position offers hybrid work with potential in-office requirements by location and periodic travel as needed. A strong technical leader is essential.

Qualifications

• Expert-level ML and statistical modeling with proven business impact.
• Deep knowledge of insurance claims processes, esp. medical/WA & workers’ comp.
• Proficient Python development with OOP design.
• Demonstrated ML/AI Ops lifecycle management and monitoring.
• Ability to quantify AI/ML system quality and impact.
• Experience partnering with technical and business stakeholders in a large org.

Responsibilities

• Identify AI/ML opportunities and create a delivery roadmap.
• Design and iterate ML and generative AI capabilities for adjusters.
• Architect end-to-end intelligent systems with ML, LLMs, and data.
• Apply strong software engineering and MLOps practices.
• Define evaluation strategies and KPIs, with human-in-the-loop reviews.
• Collaborate with Engineers, Product, Architecture, UX, and Claims.
• Provide technical mentorship and lead design reviews.
