Job summary

Liberty Mutual Insurance seeks a Director of Data Science to lead a new team applying advanced AI to pricing programs. The role focuses on building evaluations, defining metrics, and guiding deployment to production with confidence.

You will partner with pricing, technology, and data science teams across USRM lines of business. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with insurance pricing, strong leadership, and expertise in model evaluation, statistics, and modern LLMs.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience building and deploying insurance pricing models.
• Proven experience leading technical teams.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication to senior leaders.
• Deep expertise in model evaluation, statistics, and experimental design.
• Experience with modern LLMs and agentic systems.
• Strong Python skills to prototype evaluation tooling.
• Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field with 10+ years in insurance/tech, or Master’s with 8+ years.
• Desire to translate AI strategy into a prioritized roadmap.

Responsibilities

• Build and lead a team of senior data scientists partnered with USRM lines of business.
• Set strategy and roadmap for AI-enabled pricing program rollout.
• Design state-of-the-art AI and agentic evaluations; define metrics and ground truth.
• Measure AI value: effort reduction, errors avoided, time-to-market gains.
• Collaborate with data science, technology and pricing teams to bring evaluations into production.
• Evaluate AI vendors and third-party solutions with data-driven assessments.
