Job summary

Rutgers University-Newark is seeking a Director of the Counseling Center to lead clinical and administrative operations for a diverse student body of over 11,000. The role requires after-hours crisis intervention and possible evening/weekend coverage.

The candidate will supervise clinicians and staff, build campus partnerships, and guide mental health policy while ensuring culturally responsive care and safety for students and staff.

Qualifications

• Requires a Ph.D. or equivalent in Psychology, Counseling, and/or Social Work with at least five years of experience at a Counseling Center or clinic including supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates and treats students for developmental and psychological/emotional difficulties.
• Directs campus outreach programs.
• Consults with staff, faculty, and students.
• Maintains liaison with health professionals at Student Health Services.
• Provides leadership in formulating campus policies on psychological issues.
• Recruits, select, train and supervise clinicians, professional staff and graduate students in mental health fields.
• Conducts research relevant to the needs of the student population.
• Serves on CARE Team and Threat Assessment and Safety Committee and supports interventions.
