Job summary

Capital One seeks a seasoned Director of AI Engineering to lead the IFX infrastructure between applications and foundation models. You will steer model access, routing, observability, and cost management in a centralized interface.

You will guide product teams to leverage AI capabilities at scale while maintaining governance and efficiency. The role focuses on reducing latency and improving reliability for enterprise AI systems, with oversight of guardrails, evaluation, and capacity planning.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or AI with 8+ years in AI/ML leadership or a Master's with 6+ years.
At least 3 years of people leadership experience.
Experience deploying scalable AI solutions on cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
Strong communication and mentorship capabilities with a history of guiding engineering teams.

Responsibilities

Partner with cross‑functional teams to deliver AI‑powered products.
Oversee design, development, testing, deployment and support of AI software components.
Make build‑vs‑buy decisions across Open Source and SaaS AI tech.
Invent state‑of‑the‑art LLM optimization techniques for production systems.
Contribute to the technical vision and long‑term roadmap for foundational AI systems.
Attract and retain top AI talent and foster a culture of learning.
