Job summary

Capital One is seeking an AI Engineering Director to lead the Intelligent Foundations and Experiences platform, overseeing model access, routing, reliability, security, observability, and cost management for enterprise AI.

You will shape the long-term foundational AI roadmap, mentor engineers, partner with cross-functional teams, and ensure responsible, scalable AI solutions across Capital One’s products and services from McLean, VA and beyond.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in CS, Engineering, or AI with 6+ years (MS) or 8+ years (BS) of AI/ML experience.
At least 3 years of people leadership experience.
Experience deploying scalable AI solutions on cloud platforms.

Responsibilities

Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered products.
Oversee AI software components including training, inference, similarity search, guardrails, evaluation, governance and observability.
Make build-vs-buy decisions across Open Source and SaaS AI technologies.
Invent state-of-the-art LLM optimization techniques for performance, cost, latency, and throughput.
Contribute to the technical vision and long-term roadmap of foundational AI systems.
Attract and retain top AI talent and foster professional development within the team.
