Job summary

Brookhaven National Laboratory seeks an Accelerator Division Director to guide strategic and operational priorities for the accelerator complex. You will lead a team of ~75 professionals, ensure safe RHIC operation, and drive modernization aligned with EIC commissioning and future operations.

Responsibilities include engineering governance, planning, and stakeholder engagement to sustain scientific mission, with a ~$60 million annual budget and active collaboration with DOE and project

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Physics, Engineering, or closely related discipline.
• Minimum of twelve (12) years of accelerator science, accelerator engineering, or operation of complex scientific facilities.
• Eight (8) years of leadership, management, and supervisory experience within a DOE laboratory or equivalent.
• Proven record of delivering safe, reliable accelerator facility operations.
• Experience managing accelerator infrastructure modernization and lifecycle replacement.
• Experience developing operational readiness, maintenance, and reliability strategies.
• Internationally recognized accomplishments in accelerator fields.
• Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage diverse stakeholders.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Commitment to fostering an inclusive, high-performing workplace.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for the Accelerator Division, aligning with Laboratory priorities and EIC objectives.
• Oversee safe, reliable operation of RHIC and accelerator infrastructure.
• Direct maintenance outages, upgrades, and modernization to maximize availability and minimize risk.
• Lead EIC transition planning and operational readiness for commissioning and long-term operations.
• Direct lifecycle asset management and infrastructure renewal programs.
• Manage an annual operating budget of approximately $60 million.
• Lead a multidisciplinary team of ~75 professionals and mentor future leaders.
• Represent the Division in interactions with DOE, leadership, user communities, and external sponsors.
