Job summary

AHRC Nassau is seeking Direct Support Professionals to assist individuals in Day Habilitation and ICF programs, promoting independence, safety, and community integration. You will support self-care, health, socialization, and personal growth while transporting participants to and from activities.

The role emphasizes inclusivity and respect for diversity, requires good communication, a NYS driver license, and ability to lift or assist participants.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent is required.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• AMAP/First Aid/CPR/SCIP-R Training preferred.
• Valid NYS Driver License and driving eligibility.
• If you have an out-of-state license, you must transfer it to NYS within 30 days of hire.
• Minimum one year experience working with people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensures safety of program volunteers at program sites and hub locations.
• Trains volunteers to perform functional/volunteer tasks at primary and hub sites.
• Acts as second staff support transporting volunteers to and from sites.
• Liaises between site staff and volunteers.
• Prompts volunteers to interact appropriately with peers and staff.
• Reports volunteers’ success or concerns to the Site Manager.
• Completes all required documentation.
• Promotes agency philosophies including guiding principles/POM and CQL.
• Ensures safety of program volunteers and reports incidents to AHRC management and NYS Justice Center.
• Keeps up with mandatory trainings and certifications (CPR; SCIP; AMAP).
• Performs additional related duties as requested by supervisor.
