Job summary

Volunteers of America Chesapeake & Carolinas in Arlington, VA seeks a Part Time Direct Support Professional to assist people with intellectual or developmental disabilities under supervision. You will help residents learn daily living skills and participate in their community, while following PCP plans and VOA policies.

You will coordinate with families, support meal planning, budgeting, medication routines, and record progress in the electronic records system.

Qualifications

• Min of a high school diploma, GED, and/or IEP.
• 1 year of experience in intellectual/developmental disabilities field.
• Medication Administration Certification preferred or required after intro period.
• Pass trainings and maintain required certifications.
• Computer skills required for documentation.
• Clear written and verbal communication.
• Background checks and drug testing required.
• Bilingual in any language is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provides supports identified by the Person-Centered Planning Team; coordinates with families and care teams.
• Teaches and supports daily living tasks, meal planning, budgeting, and shopping.
• Helps individuals build daily living skills following the Person-Centered Plan.
• Monitor medication administration and assist with independent taking of meds.
• May perform crisis intervention and provide first aid or CPR.
• Plan, coordinate and participate in social activities with individuals.
• Document activities and behaviors in EHR and client files daily.
• Attend staff meetings and required trainings; follow program policies.
• Move people to appointments or activities and provide mobility training as needed.
