Job summary

Volunteers of America Chesapeake & Carolinas is seeking a Direct Support Professional to assist individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in their home setting. You will follow the Person-Centered Plan to support daily living, safety, and community participation.

Responsibilities include coordinating with families, supporting daily living activities, meals and budgeting, and documenting care in the electronic case management system daily.

Qualifications

• Min of a high school diploma, GED, and/or IEP.
• 1 year of experience in the field of intellectual/developmental disabilities.
• Medication Administration Certification is preferred, but will be required by end of introductory period.
• Must pass all required trainings and new hire orientation classes.
• Computer skills are required for documentation.
• Written and verbal communication skills must be clear and professional.
• Problem solving ability.
• Background checks and drug testing required.
• Bilingual in any language is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct care and supports as identified by the PCP team.
• Communicates with families and planning team as needed.
• Teaches and supports daily living skills and household tasks.
• Assists with medication administration and monitoring.
• Participates in meetings and documentation in the electronic case management system daily.
• Ensures safety and compliance with policies and procedures.
• Transports and accompanies people to appointments as needed.
