Job summary

The Health & Human Services Commission in Texas is seeking a Direct Support Professional II to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities at the Austin State Supported Living Center. This full-time role includes morning, evening, and night shifts with weekend options and potential extra pay for evenings, nights, or weekends.

Qualifications

• Ability to speak and read English.
• Ability to make decisions and use good judgment in critical incidents.
• Ability to react quickly and calmly in an emergency.
• Knowledge of individual care techniques and of treatment, therapy, and developmental programs.
• Valid Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain it within 90 days.
• CPR/First Aid, Ukeru, and Safe Use of Restraint (SUR) certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Attends work regularly and may be assigned specific or rotating shifts, including overtime.
• Implements habilitation/rehabilitation and behavior management programs.
• Teaches life skills such as feeding, dressing, and personal hygiene.
• Participates in development of the individual’s treatment plan.
• Observes health and behavior changes and documents observations.
• Assists in transporting individuals to activities and in emergencies.
• Administers first aid and CPR as appropriate.
• Provides direct care and supports to individuals.
• May mentor new staff and participate as shift/team lead.
