Overview
The Direct Support Professional works on an interdisciplinary team that delivers superior quality of service, providing appropriate activities in a safe and healthy environment within the home and community setting.
Responsibilities
- Assists clients with basic living skills and daily personal tasks, including showers, dressing, housekeeping, grocery shopping, meal planning and financial budgeting.
- Provides transportation to and from activities and appointments as needed; a valid Arkansas Driver's License is required.
- Maintains good communication via facility logbook, staff meetings, etc., regarding clients' needs and progress toward their plan of care.
- Accurately completes all required documentation (Behavioral Reports, Incident Reports, Complaint Forms, Personal Care Work Sheets, Requisitions, Maintenance Forms, Progress Reports, Monthly Attendance Logs, and other documentation as required by FCC).
- Follows documentation and record maintenance for FTA vehicles and maintains mileage/billing forms in compliance with Medicaid guidelines.
- Reports incidents and emergencies to supervisors or delegated authorities immediately.
- Assists in formulation, management, revision, and follow‑through of the client’s Plan of Care.
- Follows proper medication management guidelines, and assists in monitoring and documenting procedures.
- Organizes and carries out recreational activities for clients.
- Acts as a role model for clients through appropriate physical appearance, adherence to FCC dress code, and appropriate actions.
- Treats clients and families with dignity and respect, representing FCC’s mission.
- Assists in maintenance of FCC facilities, grounds, vehicles, ensuring cleanliness and preventive maintenance.
- Attends necessary training and continues education.
- Provides proof of liability insurance and keeps it current; if required, undergoes periodic driving test and demonstrates proficiency with passenger vans and personal vehicles used for transport.
- Maintains confidentiality in accordance with FCC’s Non-Disclosure Policy and HIPAA.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED, or at least two years’ experience working with developmentally disabled individuals.
- Valid driver's license.
Skills
- Language: can read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; can write simple correspondence; can effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group settings.
- Computer: can add, subtract, multiply, divide; compute rates, ratios, percentages; draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Reasoning: applies common sense to carry out written, oral, or diagram instructions; interprets a variety of instructions.
Physical Demands
Regularly uses hands, performs tasks that require standing, walking, reaching, sitting, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Occasionally lifts or moves up to 100 pounds. Requires close, color, depth vision and ability to adjust focus.
Compliance & Quality Assurance
Follows FCC Code of Conduct and Compliance Investigation Procedures, maintains consumer progress notes and records on prescribed forms, complies with HIPAA procedures, and participates in quality assurance measures.
