Job summary

Resources for Human Development is seeking a Direct Support Professional for the Community Passages program to support individuals with developmental disabilities in a home-like setting. The role involves helping with daily living activities, personal care, and community integration, while emphasizing respect and person-centered planning.

No prior experience is required for many positions; paid training is provided, and opportunities for growth across multiple service lines are highlighted.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; related field education is a plus.
• Previous experience in direct support, caregiving, or related field preferred.
• Compassionate and patient demeanor with a genuine desire to help others.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
• Must participate in onboarding including background and driver’s record checks.

Responsibilities

• Support clients in daily living activities, including personal care, meal preparation, and household management.
• Foster a positive and respectful relationship with clients while promoting their independence.
• Assist clients in developing skills for everyday living and participate in social and recreational activities.
• Document client progress and maintain accurate records of care and support provided.
• Communicate effectively with clients, families, and other team members to ensure coordinated care.

What You’ll Do

RHD Community Passages is a community-based residential program designed to provide a homelike environment for individuals with developmental disabilities and dual diagnoses, many of whom present significantly challenging behaviors and most of whom previously resided at state centers and hospitals. Residents develop life skills, increase their self-esteem, and are empowered to make choices for themselves. Person-centered planning, self-determination, and personalization foster individualized programs in an open and safe environment encouraging consumer empowerment and personal growth.

As a DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL, you will:

• Support clients in daily living activities, including personal care, meal preparation, and household management.
• Foster a positive and respectful relationship with clients while promoting their independence and personal choices.
• Assist clients in developing skills for everyday living and participate in social and recreational activities.
• Document client progress and maintain accurate records of care and support provided.
• Communicate effectively with clients, families, and other team members to ensure coordinated care.
