Job summary

The University of California, Berkeley's Berkeley Dining is seeking an Assistant General Manager to lead food service operations, dining and catering activities, ensuring safety and quality.

This role emphasizes staff leadership, scheduling, budgeting, inventory, and delivering outstanding customer service for on-campus dining programs.

It is a full-time exempt position with UC benefits and requires flexibility for evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of food service and sanitation regulations.
• Strong verbal and written communication in English, active listening and multitasking.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Lead/supervisory experience in food service.
• Experience with cash handling in retail or restaurant environment.

Responsibilities

• Develop schedules and staffing levels to meet business needs while controlling labor costs.
• Oversee day-to-day activities of staff in food production and service areas.
• Train and direct staff on food preparation and service per safety guidelines.
• Ensure staff understand event details, client expectations, and policies.
• Manage inventories and budgets for food and non-food items.
• Support maintenance and use of department vehicles as needed.
