Job summary

Amherst College is hiring a Food Service Attendant to join its Dining Services team. This full-time, year-round role supports food preparation and service, ensuring high-quality, safe, and welcoming dining experiences for a diverse campus community.

Responsibilities include basic prep, line service, allergen awareness, and teamwork in various operating areas. Prior food service experience and a high school diploma are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 1 to 3 years of related experience.
• Equivalent work experience in lieu of minimum education and related experience; 1-3 years of food service experience.
• Ability to provide courteous, professional, and responsive customer service in a high-volume dining environment.
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate clearly, listen actively, and work cooperatively with colleagues, students, and guests from a wide range of backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Assists with basic food preparation tasks according to standardized recipes.
• Supports culinary staff with daily service, catering, and events.
• Maintains cleanliness and organization of prep areas and storage.
• Properly labels, dates, and stores food items per safety guidelines.
• Works on food lines providing courteous, professional service and ensuring lines are stocked and labeled.
• Follows established food safety and allergen procedures.
• Supports a diverse workforce and promotes an inclusive work environment.
