Job summary

American Express is seeking an experienced Product Manager to drive iterative product development and platform innovation. You will partner with engineering, business, and stakeholders to align roadmaps, define MVPs, and manage backlogs using Agile Scrum and SAFe principles.

The role emphasizes customer-first thinking, KPI-driven evaluation, and collaboration across teams to deliver impactful financial services enhancements.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of Product Management experience driving product implementation in an iterative approach.
  • Balance of business acumen and technical knowledge with a customer-first mindset.
  • Degree in information technology, CS, information security, mathematics, statistics, or related.
  • Experience in large scale Technology Modernization and/or Transformations.
  • Ability to connect different requirements of different stakeholders.
  • Background launching software or services in partnership with engineering teams.
  • High proficiency in prototyping, iterative development, Agile, and SAFe principles.
  • Growth mindset and empathy for customers.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineering teams, business partners, and stakeholders throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Articulate the why, what, and how of products or features to Product Owners and constituents.
  • Communicate the product vision to broader stakeholders.
  • Align action items, owners, and due dates and track them to completion.
  • Lead roadmap creation and requirements gathering.
  • Manage the feature backlog using Agile Scrum methodologies.
  • Prioritize features based on business value and user impact.
  • Translate the software product roadmap into minimum viable product iterations.
  • Work with Technology to develop, test, and deliver user stories for platform capabilities and features.
  • Rapidly iterate new solutions through automation, demos, and prototyping.
  • Own and accept features for assigned scrum teams or capabilities.
  • Review and demonstrate sprint-related or general functionality with external partners, customers, the Director of Product Management, and colleagues.
  • Establish tracking and reporting to evaluate post-launch performance and future investment.
  • Apply new trends and competitive best practices to requirements and team methods of work.

Job description

Requirements
  • 5+ years of Product Management experience driving product implementation in an iterative approach
  • A good balance of business acumen and technical knowledge with a proven track record of driving platform innovation with a customer-first mindset
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Information security, Mathematics, Statistics, or any other relevant qualification
  • Experience in large scale Technology Modernization and/or Transformations
  • Ability to connect different requirements of different stakeholders
  • Background in launching software or services in partnership with engineering teams
  • High proficiency in prototyping, iterative development, Agile, and SAFe principles
  • Ability to influence others through partnerships
  • Growth mindset and creative thinking skills
  • Empathy with customers and end users
  • Strong knowledge of UI / UX development activities
  • Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the United States; the company will not pursue visa sponsorship
  • Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) Agilist Certification is a plus
  • Financial Crimes business experience and related solution acumen is preferred
  • Experience in Machine Learning model development and production deployment is preferred
  • Experience in Generative AI, prompt engineering, GENAI production use cases, and governance activities is preferred
  • Experience working in low code/no-code environments is preferred
  • Ability to evaluate product performance, define KPIs, and monitor outcomes is preferred
  • Experience evaluating data quality, performing data governance, or implementing reporting tools is preferred
