Position Summary

The Dietary Manager is a key leadership position responsible for the successful operation of Dining Services. The Dietary Manager actively prepares meals and manages the operations of the Dining Services Department, including staffing, food ordering and accountability, preparation, menu planning, food delivery, and sanitation in accordance with health department regulations. The Director ensures client and customer satisfaction with efficient, cost-effective management that meets and exceeds expectations. Assists in maintaining a positive physical and social environment for residents.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise, assign duties, and direct the work of all food service department employees, with full accountability for dining services.
  • Ensure equipment maintenance and clean, safe, and orderly work areas. Adhere to procedures regarding infection control, food safety, chemical handling, fire safety, and sanitation. Address noncompliance promptly. Maintain food costs within budget and control inventory strictly.
  • Demonstrate independent judgment and discretion.
  • Interview, recommend hiring, and orient new staff.
  • Create staff schedules, exercising judgment and discretion, and handle requests for time off or schedule modifications.
  • Track attendance and implement disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Communicate and enforce policies and procedures, including conduct, safety, sanitation, and HR policies. Discipline and recommend corrective actions as needed.
  • Evaluate employee performance and recommend changes to employment terms based on evaluations.
  • Complete dietary QA audits quarterly.
  • Plan community and individual resident menus as ordered by primary care providers, coordinating with staff and medical personnel if needed. Organize special events as required.
  • Ensure meals are prepared according to menus and recipes, presented attractively, and meet nutritional standards. Provide snacks for residents with dietary needs. Supervise proper storage, defrosting, and preparation of food following safety protocols.
  • Ensure all employees provide excellent customer service to residents and visitors.
  • Perform duties courteously and professionally, prioritizing resident safety and satisfaction.
  • Greet visitors warmly, including residents' families, prospective residents, referral sources, vendors, and regulators.
  • Answer phones professionally according to standards.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations regarding residents’ rights.
  • Ensure employee attendance at required training sessions and provide in-service training as needed.
  • Attend training sessions as directed by supervisors.
