Dietary Manager (Healthcare)

Position summary

The Dietary Manager is a key leadership position responsible for the successful operation of Dining Services. The Dietary Manager prepares meals and manages the operations of the Dining Services Department, including staffing, food ordering and accountability, menu planning, food delivery, and sanitation, in accordance with health department regulations. The Director ensures client and customer satisfaction through efficient, cost-effective management that meets or exceeds expectations. They also assist in maintaining a positive physical and social environment for residents.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Supervise, assign duties, and direct all food service department employees, maintaining full accountability for dining services.
  2. Ensure equipment maintenance and that work areas are clean, safe, and orderly. Adhere to procedures regarding infection control, food safety, chemical handling, fire safety, and sanitation, addressing any noncompliance promptly.
  3. Maintain food costs within budget and strict inventory control.
  4. Exercise independent judgment and discretion in staffing and scheduling, including granting time off requests.
  5. Track attendance and implement disciplinary actions when necessary.
  6. Enforce policies and procedures related to employee conduct, safety, sanitation, and human resources; recommend corrective actions as needed.
  7. Evaluate employee performance and suggest changes to employment terms accordingly.
  8. Complete quarterly dietary QA audits.
  9. Plan community and individual resident menus in coordination with healthcare providers and staff, including special events.
  10. Ensure meals are prepared according to menus and recipes, presented attractively, and meet nutritional standards, including for residents with special dietary needs.
  11. Supervise proper food storage, defrosting, and preparation following safety and sanitation procedures.
  12. Provide excellent customer service to residents, visitors, and staff, ensuring resident safety and satisfaction are priorities.
  13. Greet visitors courteously, answer phones professionally, and ensure compliance with residents' rights regulations.
  14. Ensure all employees attend required training sessions and provide in-service trainings as needed.
  15. Attend training sessions as directed by supervisors.
