Description

Maintain the kitchen and cooking area in a safe, orderly, clean, and sanitary manner. Prepare tasteful meals and cook a variety of foods in large quantities, following prepared menus and portion control guides. Accurately prepare special diets and record food temperatures. Prepare pureed foods and ensure food presentation is appealing to residents. Work cooperatively with personnel across all departments. Maintain sanitizer buckets with quaternary solution and assist with serving meals. Clean cooking areas and serving carts. Report resident care concerns and potential issues to the Administrator and/or Director of Nurses. Participate in the orientation and ongoing training of dietary staff. Ensure all cleaning schedules are followed.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position supervises in the absence of the Dietary Supervisor.

Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. At least one year of experience as a cook in a hospital or long-term care facility.
  3. Ability to read technical procedures and follow recipes.
  4. Effective communication skills to present information and respond to questions from managers and employees.
  5. Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
  6. Problem-solving skills and the ability to interpret various instructions.
  7. Must obtain and maintain a ServSafe Certificate.
  8. Knowledge and experience with PCC preferred.
  9. Must remain in good standing with the Department of Public Health.

Physical Demands: Standing and/or walking frequently, sitting occasionally, reaching with hands and arms frequently, pushing/pulling very frequently, talking and hearing very frequently, tasting and smelling very frequently, lifting up to 50 pounds frequently, and occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Visual acuity for close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception.

Work Environment: Typically low to moderate noise level. Reasonable accommodations available for individuals with disabilities.
