Perimeter Healthcare is hiring a dietary aide/cook!
The Dietary Aide is responsible for the preparation and service of breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals for patients and facility staff according to the approved menu cycle and production sheets. Unloading kitchen items and stocking in appropriate locations is also required.
Qualifications
- Education/Experience: Must have at least one (1) year of experience in quantity cooking, a basic knowledge of modified diets preferred; training in food service sanitation and possession of a food handler’s permit as required; experience utilizing industrial kitchen equipment and utensils; some prior kitchen supervisory experience is helpful.
- Licensure: Must have Dietary Manager Certification or Food Handlers Certification.
Primary Responsibilities
- Open the kitchen and ensure organization of daily events.
- Comply with facility and departmental policies and procedures regarding food services.
- Follow menus and recipes as provided by the Dietary Manager and Dietician.
- Prepare meals and beverages according to menu cycle and daily production sheet, ensuring attractive and tasteful meals.
- Accurately prepare food for modified diets, consulting with the Dietician as required.
- Complete and prepare meals in a timely manner as prescribed by posted meal times.
- Follow cleaning schedules and ensure a clean work area and dining room at all times.
- Document refrigeration and dish machine temperatures according to schedules.
- Adhere to standards for food temperatures during cooking, serving, and storage of leftovers.
- Maintain walk-in freezer and storerooms in an orderly fashion, properly date and label all food items.
- Adhere to portion control guidelines and avoid overproduction.
- Follow sanitation and safety standards.
- Provide leadership to other food service staff during shifts.
- Interact with patients in the serving line, helping in the selection of nutritionally balanced meals.
- Support harmonious working relationships within the department and facility.
- Report equipment malfunctions immediately.
- Assist with dishwashing and maintain cleanliness of the dish room.
- Attend mandatory in-services and staff development activities.
- Adhere to conduct, dress, attendance, and punctuality standards.
- Support quality and performance improvement goals.
- Maintain confidentiality of employee and patient information.
- Ensure all equipment is turned off, the kitchen is clean, and the department is locked at day’s end.
- Maintain cleanliness of the dining and food prep areas.
- Ensure beverages are stocked and coffee pots are full.
- Engage well with patients and assist as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of therapeutic diets, sanitation, portion control, and industrial kitchen operations.
- Skill in organizing workloads, communicating effectively, and working as part of a team.
- Ability to cook in large quantities, read menus and recipes, and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds, work in temperatures from -0°F to 100°F, and handle hazardous chemicals safely.
Physical, Mental, and Special Demands
- Ability to manipulate kitchen equipment, work within deadlines, and stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and work in various temperatures.
- Ability to see, taste, smell, and hear for safety and quality control.

- Kitchen equipment including ovens, mixers, steamers, toasters, dishwashers, etc.
- Food supplies, communication systems, recipe books, and manuals.
