Job summary

Ocean State Transit is seeking a Level II Diesel Technician in Rhode Island to maintain buses and service vehicles. The role offers competitive hourly pay, benefits, and ongoing vendor-hosted training within a team-based environment.

Responsibilities include PMIs, preventive maintenance, and diagnostic repairs, with opportunities for career growth and continued learning. A clean driving record and two years of diesel/mechanical experience are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least two years of experience as a mechanic in an automotive, school bus, trucking, or heavy equipment environment.
• Valid state driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Knowledge of maintenance on gasoline, diesel, and alternative-fuel equipment.
• Willingness to undergo background screening and drug testing.

Responsibilities

• Learn and use the maintenance tracking system to complete work orders and ensure compliance with scheduled services.
• Perform preventive maintenance inspections (PMIs).
• Follow maintenance schedules and perform tasks (lubrication, fluid changes, brake adjustments, tire rotations).
• Perform unscheduled maintenance and repairs under supervision.
• Operate CDL and non-CDL vehicles to conduct road tests.
• Use shop equipment and tools.
• Perform emergency roadside services as needed.
• Maintain a clean, organized workspace and adhere to safety procedures.
• Understand EPA and OSHA regulations and compliance.
• Accurately document repairs and parts used on work orders.
