Job summary

Penske in Alabaster, AL is hiring an entry-level Diesel Technician/Mechanic III. You will perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on a fleet, using Penske tools and training to keep vehicles safe and on the road.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or equivalent, basic mechanical aptitude, and 1–2 years of automotive/diesel repair experience, plus a willingness to learn and grow within Penske’s certification programs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred; vocational or technical certification in vehicle repair preferred.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and 1-2 years of automotive or diesel repair experience (preferred).
• Ability to solve problems and comfort using tools.
• Excellent customer service skills and communication skills.
• Ability to work well as part of a team and outside.
• Basic computer skills.
• Must understand and comply with Penske policies including DOT/OSHA safety rules.
• Regular, predictable attendance is essential.
• DOT requirements for driving Penske or customer vehicles apply.
• Willingness to work the required schedule and location, pass screenings, and travel for training.

Responsibilities

• Making sure vehicles are maintained and safe for customers.
• Log, research and complete repairs using Penske tools and technologies.
• Perform preventative maintenance like tire rotation and lubrication on gas and diesel engines.
• Collaborate with manager to learn new skills through training and coaching.
• Take on additional projects as assigned by supervisor.
