Job summary

First Student, Inc. in Normal, IL is hiring a Diesel Technician to maintain and repair school buses, ensuring safety and reliability for students. Monday–Friday day shift (8:30am–5:30pm) with year-round work and strong community impact.

Qualifications

• At least 1+ years of diesel or automotive maintenance experience or equivalent technical training.
• Vehicle diagnostic and problem-solving skills expected.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• CDL Class B or ability to obtain within 60 days, company-paid training.
• Mechanic’s tool set required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair school buses to ensure safety and reliability.
• Diagnose and repair brakes, engine tune-ups, suspensions, drive trains, and transmissions.
• Perform preventive maintenance and safety inspections.
• Complete work orders accurately.
• Assist with mobile emergency repair services when needed.
