Job summary

First Student is hiring a Diesel Technician in Chicago to maintain and repair school buses, ensuring safety and reliability for students. The role supports a Monday–Friday day shift (8:00am–4:30pm) with year-round work and a strong focus on safety and community service.

You will diagnose and fix brakes, engines, suspensions, transmissions and other bus systems, perform PMs and safety inspections, and complete work orders with precision.

Qualifications

• 1-5+ years of diesel or automotive maintenance experience or equivalent technical school education.
• Vehicle diagnostics and problem-solving skills required.
• Valid driver’s license required; CDL Class B or ability to obtain within 60 days; company-paid training.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair school buses to ensure safety and reliability.
• Diagnose and repair brakes, engine tune-ups, suspensions, drive trains, transmissions and related systems.
• Perform preventive maintenance (PMs) and safety inspections.
• Complete work orders accurately and timely.
• Assist with mobile emergency repair services as needed.
