Job summary

First Student in Normal, IL is seeking a Diesel Technician to maintain and repair school buses to ensure safety and reliability for student riders. This role emphasizes hands-on maintenance and timely repairs, with a focus on keeping our fleet in top condition.

The position offers a daytime, Monday–Friday schedule (8:30am–5:30pm) and an hourly wage starting at $25, with bonus potential for ASE tests passed. Company-paid CDL Class B training is provided, along with a strong benefits package.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of diesel or automotive maintenance and repair experience.
• Vehicle diagnostics and problem-solving skills.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• CDL Class B or ability to obtain within 60 days – Company-paid training.
• Willingness to participate in ASE certification program (training, testing, and bonuses provided).
• Strong computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair school buses to ensure safety and reliability.
• Diagnose and perform brakes, engine tune-ups, suspensions, drive trains, transmission clutches and other repairs.
• Perform preventive maintenance (PMs), safety inspections, and annual maintenance inspections.
• Complete work orders accurately.
• Assist with mobile emergency repair services when needed.
