Job description

Join to apply for the Diesel Mechanic/ Technician II role at Durham School Services.

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Diagnoses malfunctions and performs vehicle repairs, including testing and adjusting systems such as steering, electrical, cooling, brakes, drive trains, suspensions, power steering units, clutches, transmissions, and engine components, in accordance with all relevant guidelines. Test-drives vehicles to ensure repairs are effective.
2. Arranges for and obtains inspections and approvals of major repairs before vehicle release.
3. Maintains a safe, clean, and efficient work environment in compliance with all regulations.
4. Identifies and reports additional maintenance needs during repairs, including those requiring higher qualification technicians.
5. Records work details, parts used, and repairs conducted.
6. Performs road calls and on-the-road repairs as assigned.
7. Advises Lead Technician of unsafe conditions or vehicle abuse.
8. Exhibits high ethical standards and integrity; reports suspicious or inappropriate behavior.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

1. 2-4 years of medium/heavy truck fleet mechanic experience.
2. Skills in diagnostics, electrical systems, and AC.
3. Knowledge of major vehicle systems and diesel equipment.
4. Experience with fleet vehicles and familiarity with diesel and gasoline systems.
5. Possession of necessary hand tools for a Diesel Technician.
6. Good judgment and decision-making skills.
7. Valid state license; CDL preferred. Company offers free training for mechanics.
8. ASE Certification is desirable but not required.
