Job summary

XPO Logistics, Inc. in Columbus, OH is seeking a Mechanic Apprentice to perform routine maintenance on heavy-duty diesel equipment, forklifts, and trailing equipment, following DOT, EPA, OSHA, and company schedules.

The role requires 1 year of relevant experience or a technical school certification, a valid driver’s license, and flexibility to work days, evenings, and weekends. Benefits include health insurance from day one, PTO, holidays, and a 401(k) match.

Qualifications

• 1 year of experience in tractor and trailer inspection and repair or a technical school degree with certification in heavy-duty truck/trailer maintenance.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Able to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings and weekends.
• Brake inspection qualified per FMCSA regulations 396.25.
• Vehicle inspection qualified per FMCSA regulations 396.19.
• Basic hand tools required for heavy-duty trailer and tractor maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance functions and adjustments on heavy-duty diesel equipment, forklifts, and trailing equipment.
• Apply knowledge and work by DOT, EPA, Interstate Authority, OSHA and other rules as required.
• Access equipment areas to inspect and perform maintenance on vehicles and trailers.
• Repair or rebuild equipment systems.
• Conduct safety inspections and prepare safety documentation.
• Move trailers on site, operating a hostler in various weather conditions.
• Enter job times and parts on repair orders to track activity.
• Operate specialized tooling and vehicles.
• Keep the work area clean, safe, and organized.
• Interact with operations and shop management.
