Job summary

XPO Logistics, Inc. is seeking a Mechanic Apprentice in Carlisle, PA to perform routine maintenance on heavy-duty diesel equipment and trailers. The role requires knowledge of DOT, EPA, OSHA rules and the ability to inspect and repair systems across varied machinery.

Qualifications

• 1 year of experience in tractor and trailer inspection or a technical school degree with certification in heavy-duty truck/trailer maintenance.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Available to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, and weekends.
• Brake inspection qualified as defined in the FMCSA regulations, Section 396.25.
• Vehicle Inspection qualified as defined in the FMCSA regulations, Section 396.19.
• Basic hand tools required for heavy-duty trailer and tractor maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance functions and adjustments on all types of heavy-duty diesel equipment, forklifts, and trailing equipment in compliance with the manufacturer, DOT, and company schedules.
• Apply knowledge and work by DOT, EPA, Interstate Authority, OSHA and other rules and regulations, as required.
• Access any area of the equipment or vehicle to perform necessary maintenance, including inspecting and performing work in, on or under parts of vehicles and trailers.
• Repair or rebuild equipment systems.
• Conduct safety inspections of equipment and prepare safety documentation.
• Move trailers throughout the property, operating a hostler in all types of weather.
• Enter job times and parts on repair orders to track activity.
• Operate specialized tooling and vehicles.
• Ensure the work area is always clean, safe, and organized.
• Interact with operations and shop management.

What you’ll need to succeed as a Mechanic Apprentice at XPO

• 1 year of experience in tractor and trailer inspection and repair -OR- a technical school degree with certification in heavy-duty truck/trailer maintenance
• A valid driver’s license
• Available to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, and weekends
• Brake inspection qualified as defined in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations, Section 396.25
• Vehicle Inspection qualified as defined in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations, Section 396.19
• Basic hand tools required for heavy-duty trailer and tractor maintenance

Preferred qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent work-related or military experience
• Previous or current ASE certifications
• Prior mechanical experience such as automotive or skilled trades
• Basic computer skills
• Basic welding skills such as Oxy/Acetylene, ARC and MIG

• Conduct safety inspections of equipment and prepare safety documentation
• Move trailers throughout the property, operating a hostler in all types of weather

• Ensure the work area is always clean, safe, and organized
• Interact with operations and shop management

Mechanic Apprentices are required to:

• Lift objects of various shapes, sizes, and weights frequently up to 50 lbs. And occasionally greater than 75 lbs.
• Safely walk and stand for extended periods on various surfaces that may be uneven or slippery, including working outdoors in inclement weather
• Reach (including above your head), bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat and kneel
