Diesel Maintenance Technician (B)

Job Overview

Vehicle Technician B will repair and maintain all types of customer vehicles and equipment, including material handling, trailers, and diesel‑powered equipment; perform job duties independently with limited supervision; provide mentoring and assistance to Vehicle Technician C's as needed.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Perform electrical, mechanical diagnostic, and repair of customer vehicles and equipment, including material handling, trailers, and diesel‑powered equipment.
• Conduct various forms of equipment repair including drive chain components, automatic brake systems, etc. through an intermediate level of experience and system knowledge.
• Maintain accurate parts inventory, research and resolve all discovered inventory discrepancies, and notify maintenance management when a resolution is not available.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area and warehouse.
• Perform other tasks as determined and requested by management.
• Use the Maintenance software system to record data, ensure DOT compliance, and follow up on return orders.
• Serve as a mentor for Vehicle Technicians C, as needed; may perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Basic welding and cutting torch operation skills.
• Basic electrical, mechanical diagnostics, and repair skills.
• Understanding of tire inflation systems.
• Ability to mount and dismount tires.
• Basic diagnostic tool skills.
• Ability to schedule and prioritize daily tasks.
• Must adhere to company uniform and appearance standards.
• Professional and appropriate interaction with internal and external customers.
• Ability to comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions on tools, equipment, machinery, and materials used to power, hand, diagnostic tools, and operate material handling equipment.
• Must be capable of driving company equipment including class 8 tractors.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule and vary start and finish times, possibly including weekends and holidays.
• Basic computer skills.
• Each technician needs to provide their own tools.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Knowledge acquired through 3-5 years of relevant work experience.
• D.O.T. Brake Inspection certification.
• Ability to obtain a DOT medical certificate.
