Job summary

Hub Group is seeking a Fleet technician II in Illinois to diagnose, repair, and service heavy fleet equipment with minimal supervision. The role involves extensive preventive maintenance, electrical and mechanical troubleshooting, and road testing.

You will maintain high safety standards, inspect and document work, and assist in preparing equipment for delivery. A CDL-A with air brake endorsement and own tools are preferred; a strong English communicator thrives here.

Qualifications

2-4 years practical experience with tractor trailer maintenance.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Vocational/technical training or certification preferred.
Demonstrated customer service and relationship building skills.
Broad understanding of fleet maintenance policies, DOT standards and industry practices.
Organized with the ability to deal with multiple activities in a fast-paced environment.
Specialized training in the repair and replacement of vehicle components preferred.
Proficient in the use of shop tools required.
Team player with excellent communication skills.
Strong work ethic.
Excellent communication skills- Must be able to communicate in English, both verbally and written, and can read and understand English.
Clean MVR and able to operate service truck.
A valid CDL Class A license is required- (with air brake endorsement).
Basic computer skills to enter data into maintenance software system is required.
Results orientated with the ability to work with minimal supervision in non-climate-controlled environment required.
Ability to travel as needed for various training required.
Must have own tools (hand and pneumatic) sufficient to do any job that is required.
Forklift certified operator’s license preferred.

Responsibilities

Comply with safety and SOPs and follow company procedures.
Diagnostic and repair of diesel engines, powertrain, electrical, HVAC, steering, brakes, suspension, and aftertreatment components.
Perform electrical system repairs, cooling maintenance and complete vehicle diagnosis.
Recondition equipment and prep new units for delivery.
Annual vehicle inspector and brake inspector certification per DOT.
Perform PM services and DOT inspections.
Document warrantable repairs on repair orders.
Maintain clean, safe work area and assist with road testing as needed.
Use hand and power tools, welding equipment, and calibration instruments.
Perform routine maintenance like oil changes, battery checks, and lubrication.
Ensure DOT compliance and proper documentation of work.
Inspect and adjust parts per factory specs.
Handle other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Provide customer service to drivers for maintenance needs.
Maintain inventory and care for tools.
Enter transactions in maintenance software system.
Identify parts required for repair of disassembled units.
Specialize in repairing major components like engines, transmissions, and differentials.
